I'm not against people wanting to make money , but there is something grindingly depressing about chasing after the young male gamer market with Machinima productions, and DeBovoise hasn't managed it yet,
You'd think it 'ought to work', boys like games, boys buy games, boys watch game films on youtube, look at the viewing figurrrrres!
(though m.com claim a 20% female market share, all watching sims/wow movies or wearing Life of Brian beards?)
There;s a (slight?) issue that the boys are not watching tv, fox or otherwise, maybe FOX thinks this is a way of luring them back, watch youtube on tv, you know it make sense!
Here's my 'what do I know anyway' prediction.
Machinima on tv will work for those people already watching tv, middle aged sofa slumpers who want something a little different after a tiring day at work, or caring for kids / relatives. I have nothing against this group, I belong to it.
In order to succeed it needs to look better for less effort. Currently making machinima is like putting kittens in a basket, concentrating on one aspect means letting go of something else.
Extraordinary people do manage to tick all the boxes, but what they make is also extraordinary, and usually art, and therefore not really suitable for viewing between wiping jam off the dog and shouting abuse at phone spammers.
There are lots of machinima films which are already at least as good as stuff which is on tv, but by the time somebody has discouraged a door-knocker wishing to pave their drive, and found a wet-wipe to clean their glasses these short films would have flashed past.
I repeat, in order to succeed machinima needs to look better for less effort. That way, one or two people can make twelve hour long episodes, and if someone falls asleep they can easily rewind and find out where they were.

I'm sure Mr DeBovoise's movies will look lovely, but quite a lot of money, and effort will have been used, and not particularly in the right direction, and in a highly competitive market with highly volatile consumers. (hey what do I know?)

Fresh from raising another $9 million in funding this summer, Machinima.com is setting it sights beyond conquering YouTube. DeBevoise is setting a course for true multiplatform domination, extending the network’s brand into TV and film. Case in point, the company teamed up with TV production studio Reveille this spring to create an entirely machinima-based TV pilot, Heel for FOX. The project is being written by Simpsons writer Chris Cluess as part of a broader development deal announced last year with 15 veteran TV writers working on machinima projects for the company.
